Psychological Assessment

What is a psychological assessment?

A psychological assessment is a tool to better understand mental health concerns, and provide a path forward for treatment. An assessment provides a structured, evidence-based approach to clarifying symptoms, offering a way to see what diagnoses might be a fit for you, and which treatment approaches could help.

Who can benefit from psychological assessment?

Psychological assessment can be helpful in many situations. An assessment may be helpful if you or your child:

  • Have difficulty focusing or learning, which is negatively impacting school or work
  • Struggle with behavioral concerns that are impacting daily life
  • Have long-term mental health symptoms that you’d like to understand better
  • Continue to struggle with mental health symptoms despite ongoing treatment

What diagnoses can CBH assess for?

Clients often come to us to evaluate a variety of diagnoses, including (but not limited to):

  • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Specific Learning Disorders
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder in both children and adults
  • Depression, anxiety, or trauma disorders

How long does an assessment take?

A psychological assessment takes place over several appointments. In the first appointment, your clinician will meet with you to talk about what you are hoping to learn from the assessment. After that, you and your clinician will schedule testing appointments. The number of testing appointments is dependent on the individual’s needs. Finally, you and your clinician will schedule an appointment to talk about the findings, your diagnoses, and the next steps for treatment.

How much does it cost?

Fees are assigned on a sliding scale based on household income and family size. Fees range from $300 to $720. Payment plans are available, and fee reductions are often possible based on individual circumstances. A 15% down payment is required at the time of scheduling.

Please note that autism testing requires an additional one-time fee due to staffing and supervision requirements. Adult autism testing is an additional $150, while child and adolescent autism testing is an additional $250.
